The change will increase the retirement age from 62 to 64.

On Monday, France’s President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to raise the retirement age was passed.

The French government decided to trigger Article 49.3 of the Constitution, allowing the reform to be forced through parliament without a vote. In response, citizens across the country are protesting, and calling the reform a threat to France’s democracy.
