The hit Broadway musical Waitress is making its Southwestern Ontario debut this Tuesday at The Grand Theatre in London.
Waitress is a comedic musical about a small-town girl who hopes her delectably punny pies will lead her to bigger things. Although her path seems straightforward, her journey is anything but. Audiences follow along the character’s adventures as she pursues ambitions beyond her waitressing job. With “berry” good musical numbers, Waitress is packed with more than just pie-filling. There’s a steamy affair, friendship drama, and a bun in the oven!
Broadway had released the rights to the musical in 2023. Communications director Maria Siabato says it was a no-brainer for The Grand Theatre to green-light the production.
“It’s an excellent show that gained immense popularity on Broadway, and I think our version of the production is unique and fresh. The cast has been working hard and is eager to bring this interpretation of the production to life.”
Local theatre enthusiast Kelly Gillis is looking forward to seeing the production. She has already purchased her tickets for the April 10 show.
“I’ve seen Waitress before in Toronto, and I really enjoyed the production. I’m very confident that The Grand’s rendition of the production will be incredible.”
The cast features an all-Canadian ensemble, with Julia McLellan in the lead role as Jenna. The musical direction for Waitress is handled by London-born Patrick Bowman, a Western University alumnus.
While the 140-minute show is lively and comedic, the musical is not intended for all audiences. This production features depictions of domestic abuse, and parental advisory is strongly recommended.
Tickets for this performance of the Broadway musical Waitress are currently on sale and available for online purchase at grandtheatre.com/events/waitress. The production runs from March 25 through April 12, 2025.
